Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, widely known as K1, has written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, raising concerns over his exclusion from the process to select nominees for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool.
In a petition dated January 8, 2026, submitted through his lawyer Wahab K. Shittu, SAN, K1 urged the governor to ensure the nomination exercise is conducted in full compliance with established laws and procedures. He also called on the Ogun State Executive Council to intervene, describing what he sees as deliberate efforts to sideline him and other eligible princes from the process.
K1 claimed that leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were taking steps that could unfairly prevent certain family members from participating. He argued that the actions of both the Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the ruling house so far contradict due process and the legal framework governing chieftaincy matters.
The musician objected to directives requiring candidates to purchase nomination forms and undergo a screening panel, stating that such requirements are not provided for under the Chieftaincy Declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State.
According to the petition, the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government had instructed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in a January 6, 2026 letter to convene a statutory family meeting within 14 days to nominate candidates. K1, however, alleged that a subsequent notice from Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, the family’s Public Relations Officer, introduced additional procedures, including screening and delegate-based nominations.
The notice reportedly scheduled the nomination exercise for January 12, 2026, at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode, with a prior meeting for delegate selection on January 10.
K1’s lawyer described these developments as illegal, warning they could disenfranchise legitimate members of the ruling house. The petition stressed that all qualified members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House should have the right to participate freely in the nomination process, without any faction dominating it.
The petition emphasized that imposing screening panels and delegate systems contradicts both the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State, 2021, and could trigger avoidable disputes. K1 appealed to Governor Abiodun to act quickly to ensure fairness and transparency, adding that any attempt to bar him from the process would be strongly challenged.
It is recalled that K1 had previously withdrawn a case at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, where he had contested claims that he was not recognized as a bona fide member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected to carry out the nomination exercise on Monday at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode, unless a last-minute change occurs.
