Kadunna – Abuja Train Crash Sparks Panic
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded on Monday morning after an Abuja-bound train travelling from Kaduna collided with another train along the same rail corridor.
The crash forced an immediate halt to operations on one of Nigeria’s busiest railway routes during the peak morning commute.
The incident happened shortly after the train departed Kaduna and encountered another train on the track.
Details about the exact movement of the two trains are still emerging, but the impact brought both locomotives to an abrupt stop and disrupted travel for passengers heading to the capital.
Passengers described the moment of impact as a “sudden and violent jolt” that shook the coaches and caused panic among travellers.
One passenger said “We were moving at a steady pace when there was a loud bang and the train suddenly braked,” adding “We later realized we had hit another train on the same track. Everyone is shaken, but we are waiting for official word.”
Another traveller, Sada Malumfashi, also described the moment online, saying “Just dropped from the Kaduna-Abuja train. We heard a loud bang and the train jolted to a stop flinging people across.
Passengers got hit and most are bleeding and severely injured,” while also noting “Train delayed for some 30 minutes and resumed to Kubwa.
No communication from @info_NRC on anything.”
Emergency teams and security personnel were later sent to the scene to evacuate passengers and secure the area.
While early reports suggest the collision damaged the front sections of the trains, there were no confirmed fatalities at the time, though the incident has raised concerns about signalling systems and safety measures on the route.
