Kano Moves To Appoint New Deputy Governor
In Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected to nominate a new deputy governor following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Sources say the name of Murtala Sule Garo may be sent to the State House of Assembly next week.
Reports indicate that three figures are being considered for the role, including Speaker Usman Fagore and lawmaker Alhassan Rurum.
However, Garo is said to be gaining strong backing from key stakeholders within the political circle.
Sources said the former deputy governor stepped down to avoid impeachment moves by the Assembly after a court declined to stop the process.
The decision is believed to be part of wider political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development is linked to ongoing alignments within the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with talks of future plans for Gwarzo.
Recent visits by Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson have also drawn attention amid possible alliance talks.
