Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has complied with the Federal High Court’s directive to defend the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
Kanu, who had previously resisted opening his defence, is now filing his defence papers inside the courtroom in Abuja, following the order of Justice James Omotosho.
In a bid to speed up the process, the judge directed that the court’s registry be temporarily relocated to his courtroom to enable Kanu to submit his documents seamlessly.
During the session, Federal Government counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), told the court that he was ready to receive the defence documents from Kanu and would respond accordingly.
As of the time of filing this report, the defence submission was still ongoing, prompting the judge to stand down proceedings for one hour to allow completion.
Before now, Kanu had refused to present his defence, insisting that the prosecution must first identify the specific terrorism law he allegedly violated before he would proceed.
