Lagos Puts Makoko Demolition on Hold
The Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered a pause on the demolition of properties in Makoko.
The decision comes after lawmakers intervened to review the planned demolition, citing concerns over residents’ welfare and the need for proper urban planning measures.
The Assembly called on the state government to explore alternative solutions that balance development with the rights of the community.
Authorities in Lagos have been directed to halt all ongoing demolition activities in the area until further notice. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate while discussions continue.
The state government is expected to engage with lawmakers, community leaders, and urban planning experts to determine a sustainable plan for Makoko’s redevelopment.
