Property worth millions of naira was destroyed on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in a factory located in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The blaze, which reportedly consumed large quantities of tissue paper and baby clothing items, including diapers, began at about 5:30 am.
A resident, Obinna Okoye, said the fire caught everyone unawares as most people were still asleep when it started.
He noted that firefighters arrived promptly to tackle the flames.
“The fire service men are still trying to quench the fire. You know how inflammable pampers and tissue papers can be,” he said.
The Commander of the Fire Service in charge of the Nnewi zone, F. Jerry, confirmed the incident, stating that the situation had been brought under control.
He added that no casualties were recorded, although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
