Military Airstrike Sparks Outrage In Borno
The Nigerian military has defended an airstrike on Jilli village market near the Borno–Yobe border, saying it targeted a t+rrorist base linked to ISWAP.
The operation, carried out under Operation HADIN KAI, has drawn criticism as reports of civilian casualties continue to rise.
Local sources reported more than 40 civilian d+aths, while other accounts placed the figure higher.
Amnesty International said over 100 people may have been k+lled, describing the att@ck as “reckless” and calling for a full investigation into the incident.
The military said the strike was based on intelligence and surveillance that identified the location as a logistics hub for t+rrorists.
It added that “t+rrorist elements, their collaborators, and logistics handlers” were confirmed before the operation, with several targets destroyed during the strike.
However, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency said early findings suggest civilians, including traders, were affected in what appeared to be an accidental strike.
The Nigerian Air Force has opened an investigation, while Atiku Abubakar criticised the incident as a “devastating failure” and called for urgent reforms.
