Afrobeats star Davido has demonstrated his love for football ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by placing a bet of $25,000, estimated at about N36 million, on Nigeria’s opening Group C clash against Tanzania.

The singer shared an image of his betting slip on his X page on Sunday, revealing that he wagered on both teams to score, with a potential return of $96,564, approximately N140 million.

This is not the first occasion Davido has placed a major bet in support of the Super Eagles. Before Nigeria’s most recent competitive match against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Afrobeats sensation staked $10,000, valued at about N15 million, predicting a Nigerian victory with both sides scoring, with a possible payout of $50,194.58, around N75.2 million.

Nigeria, however, lost that encounter, but Davido’s passion for backing the national team has not waned.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23, as they begin their pursuit of a fourth AFCON title.

Nigeria, who have won the African Cup of Nations three times, enter the fixture as favourites, having finished as runners-up in the last edition of the tournament.

Nevertheless, expectations surrounding the current Super Eagles squad remain restrained. Their recent failure to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup has dampened optimism, even among the most loyal supporters.

Despite this caution, the numbers favour Nigeria. The Super Eagles are ranked 38th globally, while Tanzania are placed 112th in the FIFA rankings.

In addition, Tanzania have never recorded a victory over Nigeria in a competitive match, further strengthening the belief in the Super Eagles’ chances.

With fans and high-profile supporters such as Davido rallying behind the team, attention will be firmly fixed on Fez on Tuesday as Nigeria aims to open its AFCON 2025 campaign on a strong note.
