NAFDAC Seized Fake Drugs Worth Billions
NAFDAC has seized fake malaria medicines and unapproved cosmetic products valued at about three billion naira during a major enforcement operation in Lagos State.
The action followed intelligence reports pointing to the circulation of dangerous and illegal products in key markets.
The operation was carried out by NAFDAC officers across several locations in the state, where warehouses and shops were found storing counterfeit drugs and cosmetics meant for public sale.
Many of the seized items were poorly labelled and produced without approval, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Officials said the fake malaria treatments could worsen illness or lead to drug resistance, while the cosmetics were capable of causing skin damage and other health problems.
The agency noted that the scale of the seizure shows how deeply fake products have entered the market.
NAFDAC has warned traders and distributors to stay away from illegal goods, stressing that enforcement efforts will continue.
The agency also urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious products to protect lives and public health.
