NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Over Fake HIV Test Kits
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public about the circulation of fake HIV test kits in parts of Nigeria.
The agency said the counterfeit kits could produce inaccurate results, which may lead to serious health consequences for people relying on them to determine their HIV status.
According to NAFDAC, the fake products are being distributed through unauthorized channels and may look similar to genuine testing kits, making them difficult for buyers to identify.
The agency advised Nigerians to avoid purchasing HIV test kits from unregistered vendors, open markets, or online sellers that are not approved by health authorities.
It urged the public to obtain testing kits only from licensed pharmacies, hospitals, or accredited health facilities.
NAFDAC also called on healthcare providers and members of the public to report any suspicious or unregistered HIV testing kits found in circulation.
The agency said investigations are ongoing to trace those responsible for distributing the fake medical products and warned that anyone caught producing or selling them would face legal action.
Health officials stressed that accurate HIV testing is critical for proper diagnosis and treatment, urging Nigerians to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of medical products before use.
