National Grid Collapses For The Second Time
Nigeria’s electricity system suffered another setback in 2026 as the national grid collapsed for the second time this year, throwing parts of the country into darkness and raising fresh concerns about power stability.
The incident occurred earlier this week, affecting electricity supply across several states and leaving homes, businesses and public facilities without power for hours. It marked the second grid failure recorded in just a short period this year.
Power sector officials confirmed the collapse but did not immediately give full details on the cause.
Engineers were said to be working to restore supply and stabilise the system after the sudden shutdown.
The repeated grid failures have renewed worries among electricity consumers, many of whom already struggle with irregular supply and rising energy costs. Businesses relying on steady power were again forced to turn to generators.
The latest collapse adds to long-standing challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector, including ageing infrastructure and operational issues, as calls grow louder for lasting solutions to prevent repeated nationwide outages
