NetNaija Founder Faces Court Battle
Emmanuel Analike, the chief executive of the popular NetNaija movie website, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of copyright infringement linked to the online platform.
The Nigerian Copyright Commission brought the charges, accusing him of handling pirated movies and music through the site.
Prosecutors told the court that Analike was involved in possessing, reproducing and distributing copyrighted content without authorisation.
The alleged activities were said to have taken place through the NetNaija website, which has long been known for sharing films and music online.
During the court session, Analike denied all the charges brought against him. After taking his plea, the court ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre while the case continues.
The judge fixed March 9 for a decision on his bail application. The case forms part of ongoing efforts by authorities to crack down on online piracy and enforce copyright laws in the country.
