The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has clarified its support for the families of late football legends Christian Chukwu and Peter Rufai, following criticisms from former Super Eagles defender Taribo West.
In an official statement, the NFF confirmed that it provided financial assistance to both families to facilitate the funeral arrangements and ensure proper honours were paid to the football icons.
For Chukwu’s burial, the NFF was represented by Executive Committee members Chief George Aluo, Barr. Okey Obi, and Mr. Chikelue Iloenyosi. At Rufai’s funeral in Lagos, the delegation included Executive Committee members Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi and Dr. Ademola Olajire.
The federation reiterated its commitment to celebrating the legacies of these national heroes, emphasizing its continued support for their families. “We honour their service, celebrate their legacy, and extend our ongoing support to their families,” the statement added.
The clarification aims to address public concerns and underscore the NFF’s role in recognizing and supporting former footballers and their contributions to Nigerian football.
