Night Shooting Leaves Anambra Town On Edge
Tension spread through Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after gunmen killed the President General of the community and another resident on Friday evening.
The attack happened at the Ogidi School Field, a well-known public space, leaving residents shocked and uneasy.
The Anambra State Police Command linked the killings to a possible reprisal connected to the recent capture and killing of a notorious cult figure in the area.
Many residents have stayed indoors since the incident, worried that the violence could worsen.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command “regrets the murder of the President General of the Ogidi community and one other person.”
He added that the attack occurred on February 6 and is “allegedly linked to the recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community.”
Police operatives were deployed to the area shortly after the shooting, and investigations are ongoing using eyewitness accounts and intelligence reports.
