NLC Demands Pay Rise As Fuel Increases
The Nigeria Labour Congress has called for a new wage award as the country faces rising fuel prices, warning that workers are shouldering the burden of a global crisis beyond their control.
Petrol costs have surged sharply, putting additional pressure on households.
The labour group said the ongoing fuel price increase is worsening living conditions for millions of Nigerians, with transportation and basic goods becoming more expensive.
They urged the government to take urgent steps to ease the financial strain on workers.
The NLC stressed that wage adjustments must reflect the growing cost of living, arguing that workers’ incomes are being eroded by inflation and rising energy costs.
The organisation said failure to act could deepen economic hardship for employees across sectors.
Officials also called for dialogue with employers and government agencies to ensure timely implementation of any wage increase, highlighting the need for policies that protect workers’ welfare amid continuing fuel price pressures.
