NSCDC Breaks Silence On Promotion Arrears Row
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rejected claims that its leadership is withholding promotion arrears and welfare funds, saying the allegations are false and aimed at stirring unrest within the service.
The Corps said the reports, dated January 29, 2026, and linked to its Abuja headquarters, wrongly accuse the current leadership of blocking payments meant for personnel. It described the claims as misleading and designed to confuse officers and the public.
According to the NSCDC, payments of salary and promotion arrears are not handled by the Commandant General. Instead, they are managed by a Presidential Committee on Arrears, working alongside the Budget Office and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
The Corps said records show steady progress in clearing outstanding payments, countering claims that no arrears have been paid since 2022.
The service explained that when the current leadership assumed office in 2021, it inherited unpaid salary arrears covering five years. Through engagement with federal authorities, those arrears were cleared, benefiting more than 37,000 personnel.
It added that arrears from 2020 to 2022 have already been approved and are awaiting final release for payment, while those for 2023 and 2024 are yet to receive government approval.
The NSCDC also addressed concerns over the 2025 promotion exercise, noting that results were only released late last year and that work is ongoing to capture the financial implications in the budget.
The Corps said it remains focused on staff welfare, transparency and accountability, while warning against attempts to damage its image
