Ondo APC Chairman Beaten During Meeting
Violence broke out on Tuesday at the Ondo State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Akure when a pre-congress stakeholders’ meeting turned chaotic.
Suspected thugs stormed the venue less than a day before ward congresses were due to hold across 203 wards. Several party figures, including the state chairman, were assaulted and others sustained injuries.
Witnesses said the attackers arrived armed and disrupted the gathering, warning against holding the congress.
One eyewitness, Yetunde Adeyanju, claimed the group declared loyalty to the governor and threatened anyone pushing for the exercise, saying, “We don’t want congress in Ondo State.
Among those reportedly beaten were state chairman Ade Adetimehin, Niger Delta Development Commission board member Otito Atikase, and former Sports Commissioner Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye.
The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
The state Commissioner for Information, Idowu Ajanaku, dismissed claims linking the governor to the violence, describing the accusation as “unfounded, false and misleading.”
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said officers responded to a distress call, restored calm at the secretariat, and have begun investigations into the incident.
