Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has vowed to face court proceedings after being sued by the Department of State Services (DSS) over a social media post in which he called President Bola Tinubu a criminal.

The DSS had earlier filed a five-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday against Sowore, as well as social media platforms X and Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2015, lists the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the complainant, with Sowore, X Inc., and Meta Inc. named as defendants.

Reacting to the charges, Sowore affirmed he would appear in court when required.

“The State Security Service, alias @OfficialDSSNG, today filed a 5-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against ‘@X’ (formerly @Twitter), @facebook, and myself,” he wrote on X.

“They claimed that because I called @officialABAT a criminal, I have somehow committed a set of ‘novel’ offences they invented and spread across five counts. It’s hard to believe there’s anyone sensible left in these offices that should be making Nigeria work. Regardless, I will be present whenever this case is assigned for trial. #RevolutionNow.”

Sowore had previously revealed that the DSS wrote to him demanding the removal of the post and an unreserved apology. The activist, however, insisted he would neither delete the post nor apologize.
