Osun Retirees Protest Aregbesola’s Political Return
Retired public servants in Osun State on Thursday staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo, opposing the return of former governor Rauf Aregbesola’s political platform, the African Democratic Congress, to the state’s political scene.
The protesters, drawn from the 2011/2012 Retired Public Servants Association of Osun State and the Unbonded Contributory Scheme Pensioners, said they are still battling unpaid entitlements more than 13 years after leaving service.
Speaking after the demonstration, association chairman Comrade Omoniyi Ilesanmi accused the Aregbesola administration of policies that allegedly caused hardship for workers and retirees.
He claimed that contributory pension funds were withdrawn without due process and not properly remitted to Pension Fund Administrators, leaving many pensioners in financial difficulty.
The retirees urged stakeholders and residents to resist what they described as a return that could negatively affect workers and the broader public service.
The protest highlights lingering pension grievances in the state, even as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.
