Oyo State will hold its next local government elections on Saturday, January 16, 2027, as the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission announced the schedule in Ibadan after its first leadership meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Agodi.
The decision was taken by OYSIEC officials led by chairman Babatunde Afees Adeniyi, who met with management staff to map out plans for a smooth exercise across the state’s 33 local government areas.
Voting is set to take place in all polling units from 8am to 3pm, while campaign activities will end at midnight on Friday, January 15, 2027. The commission also fixed Saturday, January 23, 2027, for any rerun polls if needed.
The commission explained that the timetable aligns with state laws governing local councils, noting that the current chairmen and councillors will complete their tenure in May 2027, making early preparations necessary.
OYSIEC said the process will follow existing electoral laws and called on political parties, candidates, and residents to cooperate with officials to ensure a peaceful, fair, and orderly election across the state.
