PDP Criticizes APC Of Treating Insecurity Lightly
Residents of Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State were thrown into fear after gunmen attacked three churches during Sunday services and abducted more than 100 worshippers.
The incident quickly became a national issue after conflicting accounts emerged from security agencies and rights groups.
The Peoples Democratic Party stepped into the matter after the Kaduna State Police Command initially dismissed reports of the abductions.
The police described the reports as false and claimed there was no record of missing persons from the area, a response that triggered outrage among affected communities and observers.
Doubts grew stronger when Christian Solidarity Worldwide–Nigeria confirmed that the abductions did take place.
The group also said security operatives blocked attempts to independently verify what happened, further raising concerns about transparency and the handling of the situation.
The situation took another turn when the Nigeria Police Force later confirmed the abduction. According to the force, tactical and intelligence units were deployed to locate and rescue the victims, contradicting the earlier position of the Kaduna police command.
Reacting, the PDP accused the federal government and state authorities of treating insecurity lightly. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, the party said the denial was painful and dangerous, adding that it showed a pattern of prioritising image over lives.
The party demanded an apology from the police and local authorities and urged the federal government to urgently deploy a strong security team to rescue the abducted worshippers.
