PDP Drags APC To Court Over FCT Poll
The Peoples Democratic Party has taken legal steps to contest the recent Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory after the All Progressives Congress captured five out of six chairmanship positions.
Only Gwagwalada went to the PDP, while APC won Abuja Municipal, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje.
The party claims the polls were marred by irregularities, including voter intimidation and money politics.
A special legal team has been set up to challenge the declared results, signalling a potential courtroom battle over the FCT outcome.
Voter turnout remained low, with about 239,000 people participating, representing roughly 15 per cent of registered voters.
The Independent National Electoral Commission clarified that no voters were moved from their original polling units and explained that split units were created to reduce congestion.
The elections also drew attention from security agencies, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arresting 20 individuals over vote-buying and related offences, recovering more than N17 million.
Political reactions were mixed, with the ruling APC celebrating the victories, while opposition leaders warned of declining public trust and a shrinking democratic space.
