Presidency Rejects Blame Over ADC Crisis
The Presidency has rejected claims linking Bola Tinubu to the troubles surrounding Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress.
The response came from presidential aide Bayo Onanuga on Monday. He said the President played no role in Obi’s political decisions or the internal disputes within the party.
The statement followed rising claims that the crisis had outside influence.
The Presidency said Obi left the Labour Party without resolving its issues. It added that he failed to build a strong political structure after the 2023 election.
According to the statement, his reliance on the Obidient movement did not translate into a solid party base. This, it argued, contributed to his current political challenges.
It also claimed Obi moved to the ADC in search of an already established platform. The statement described the party as one already facing internal divisions.
It linked the crisis to disputes among party members, including figures like Atiku Abubakar and Ralph Nwosu. The Presidency maintained that these issues were internal and not caused by the government.
Finally, the Presidency urged Obi and his allies to resolve their differences within the party. It said any ambition for 2027 must begin with fixing internal problems.
It also argued that past election results do not guarantee future success. The statement concluded that blaming the President for opposition struggles was unfair and without basis.
