Push Begins For Obi 2027 Bid
In Ojoto, Anambra State, a member of the House of Representatives, Harris Okonkwo, has said he and his supporters will work to ensure former governor Peter Obi secures the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker spoke during a medical outreach organised by the Annie Okonkwo Foundation for residents of his constituency.
Okonkwo, who recently left the Labour Party for the ADC, said the decision on who becomes the party’s presidential candidate will rest with party members and voters.
He expressed belief that Nigerians will make the right choice when the time comes to select a flag bearer.
He also raised concerns about aspects of the amended Electoral Act, saying some provisions limit political participation.
According to him, while the law may stop individuals from belonging to multiple parties, it should not prevent people from supporting candidates outside their own political platforms.
The lawmaker further criticised what he described as poor management of national resources and urged leaders to place greater focus on the welfare of citizens.
He said the country’s progress depends on responsible leadership and better use of public funds.
