Naijauser, a prominent Nigerian news and forum website organization, has condemned the illegal continued detention of four native doctors in Anambra State without trial. The individuals, including Chidozie Nwangwu (popularly known as Akwa Okuko), Onyebuchi Okocha (Onyeze Jesus), and another from Okija in Ihiala known as Eke Hit, were arrested under allegations of involvement in criminal activities such as kidnapping and ritualistic practices. Despite being in custody for several months, they have not been formally charged or brought before a court of law.
Naijauser’s condemnation highlights concerns over the violation of constitutional rights, including the right to a fair trial and protection from unlawful detention. The organization stated that while the fight against criminal activities is crucial, it must not come at the expense of individual freedoms and due process.
Governor Charles Soludo’s administration has stated that the crackdown targets fraudulent practitioners who exploit traditional practices for criminal purposes. However, Naijauser argues that the prolonged detention of individuals without trial undermines the principles of justice and accountability and the continuous prospondment of the case
As the situation unfolds, Naijauser calls for immediate action to ensure that all detainees are afforded their legal rights and that any allegations against them are addressed through proper legal channels.
