The Take It Back Movement has issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, threatening to organise nationwide protests if the former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Party and activist, Omoyele Sowore, is not released.
The group made this known in a statement on Wednesday, signed by its coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon.
This follows the arrest of Sowore by the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday over a protest held on Monday to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Explaining the reason behind the arrest, police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin stated that Sowore was detained for allegedly leading the protest into restricted areas as prohibited by a court order.
In response, the Take It Back Movement warned that any delay in Sowore’s release would result in a mass mobilisation of Nigerians for nationwide demonstrations.
“We wish to categorically warn that any form of detention, harassment, or intimidation of Sowore by the NPF or any arm of the Tinubu regime will be met with an immediate, nationwide mass action.
“Let it be clearly known: if Sowore is not released immediately and unconditionally, the Take It Back Movement, alongside progressive organisations across the country, will mobilise citizens for sustained protests and civil disobedience actions until he regains his freedom,” the group stated.
