Renewed Violence In Jos As Curfew Eased
Fresh violence has broken out in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, leaving several residents dead and many others injured.
The clashes happened just hours after Caleb Mutfwang eased a 48-hour curfew imposed after an earlier deadly attack in the area. The curfew was adjusted to allow limited movement during the day.
Eyewitnesses said armed youths stormed parts of the community early Wednesday, attacking residents with sticks, machetes, and stones. Panic spread as families ran for safety while homes were targeted.
Security forces, including the army, were later deployed to restore calm, but not before casualties were recorded. One of the injured victims reportedly died in hospital, while others remain in critical condition.
Residents and community leaders have blamed the situation on the early relaxation of the curfew, saying security presence was not strong enough to prevent fresh attacks. Many are calling for tighter measures and more protection.
The violence is linked to a previous assault days earlier, when gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms attacked the same community, triggering the initial curfew.
Despite assurances from the state government, fear remains high as residents worry about further clashes. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore order and prevent more bloodshed.
