Residents Criticizes KEDCO Over Ramadan Power Supply
Residents of Katsina have voiced growing anger over poor electricity supply by Kano Electricity Distribution Company during the Ramadan fasting period.
Many households and businesses say power outages have worsened in recent weeks despite promises of improved service across the city.
People who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria said the situation has made daily life difficult, especially during Suhur and Iftar when electricity is needed most.
They accused the power company of failing to meet expectations even after announcing a major investment meant to improve supply.
KEDCO had earlier revealed a N500 million upgrade plan aimed at strengthening network stability and increasing electricity availability across Katsina.
Its Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala-Sani, assured residents that the fasting period would come with better electricity coverage.
However, many residents insist the promise has not matched reality.
Small business owners say they now rely heavily on generators, while others report losing goods and income due to prolonged outages, with some warning that the situation is pushing businesses close to shutting down.
