Sanwo Olu Honours Murtala Mohammed At 50th Anniversary
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday attended the 50th anniversary remembrance of late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
The event, held to mark five decades since Mohammed’s assassination, brought together political leaders, military officers, diplomats and family members to honour his legacy and contributions to Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to the former leader, describing him as a symbol of courage, discipline and selfless service whose short time in office left a lasting impact on the country.
He noted that Mohammed’s leadership style and commitment to national unity remain relevant, especially at a time when Nigeria is seeking stronger institutions and renewed patriotism.
General Murtala Mohammed served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1975 until his death in 1976 and is remembered for his decisive reforms and bold foreign policy stance.
