Security Backs MC Oluomo Amid NURTW Clash
Security operatives on Tuesday escorted Musiliu Akinsanya to the national secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Abuja, despite an ongoing leadership dispute.
The move followed the arrest of Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, who had earlier been recognised by a court as the union’s leader.
The development has deepened tensions within the organisation.
The situation began after Baruwa and his supporters attempted to enforce a court ruling that affirmed his leadership and ordered a rival faction to vacate the secretariat.
Police confirmed they responded to a distress call about a large group storming the secretariat, claiming the individuals were trying to enforce a judgment without proper legal officers present.
Meanwhile, reports from the scene indicated clashes, with teargas used to disperse supporters and at least one person injured during the unrest.
The court ruling had directed that control of the secretariat be handed over to Baruwa’s leadership and barred the opposing faction from acting as officials.
Despite this, security presence at the site allowed Oluomo access, raising questions about the enforcement of the judgment.
The dispute continues to draw attention as both sides insist on their claims.
