Senate Rejects National Safety Budget
Lawmakers in the National Assembly have turned down the Nigerian Air Force’s 2026 budget proposal during a joint committee session held on Tuesday.
The decision followed concerns that the plan failed to meet the country’s growing security needs.
Members of the joint committees said the figures presented did not reflect the scale of threats facing Nigeria, especially with ongoing insecurity across several regions.
They noted that the allocation would limit operations and weaken the Air Force’s ability to respond effectively.
The lawmakers pointed to gaps in funding for equipment, training, and maintenance, warning that these shortfalls could affect national defence.
They insisted that the military arm requires stronger financial backing to carry out its duties.
The committees asked the Air Force leadership to revisit the proposal and return with a revised budget. Until then, approval will remain on hold as pressure mounts for a more realistic plan.
