Senate Seeks Extra Funds For INEC
The Senate Committee on Electoral Matters has proposed an extra N30 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The recommendation aims to ensure the commission has adequate resources to conduct free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
Lawmakers noted that the additional funding would cover logistics, technology, and personnel deployment ahead of the polls.
The committee’s suggestion is expected to be considered alongside INEC’s overall budget proposal, with a view to avoiding last-minute funding challenges that could disrupt electoral activities.
This move reflects ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to support electoral institutions and safeguard the integrity of the voting process for the upcoming elections.
