Senator Natasha Applauds NAFDAC Drug Crackdown
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has praised the renewed crackdown on fake and substandard drugs by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, saying the effort is protecting lives across the country.
She spoke during the 2026 budget defence session for health-related agencies at the Senate on Saturday.
The Kogi lawmaker said the campaign against counterfeit medicines is helping to protect public health and rebuild trust in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
She described the agency’s actions as timely and vital at a period when fake drugs remain a major threat to patients and medical workers.
While addressing the session, she commended the NAFDAC leadership for what she called strong commitment and bravery in confronting drug counterfeiters nationwide.
The interception of these counterfeit products is not just an enforcement success; it is a lifesaving intervention that reinforces public confidence in our healthcare system.”
“As legislators, we must ensure that NAFDAC is adequately funded and empowered. Supporting this agency is supporting the health, safety, and dignity of Nigerians.”
The Senate Committee on Health later assured that it would keep pushing for proper funding and close oversight of health agencies, especially those involved in tackling fake and substandard medical products.
