Senator Omisore Officially Enters 2026 Osun Governorship Race With APC

Senator Iyiola Omisore, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially announced his plan to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State under the party’s platform.

Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun, shared the news on his X handle on Saturday, stating that his formal declaration will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Osun APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo. The event, themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” is set for 10 a.m.

“My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he wrote.

Omisore said his campaign will focus on restoring hope, improving governance, and delivering a better future for the people of Osun. “This is not just my mission, it is a collective one. I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026,” he added.

Omisore, who previously ran for governor in 2014 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is considered a key contender for the APC ticket.

He served as deputy governor of Osun from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy and later represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, where he chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee.

After his 2014 governorship loss to then-incumbent Rauf Aregbesola under the PDP, Omisore joined the Social Democratic Party for the 2018 election before moving to the APC in 2021. Thirteen months later, he was elected National Secretary at the party’s national convention in Abuja, following the withdrawal of his main opponent.
