Senator Osita Ngwu Fraud Sparks Fresh Outrage
Senator Osita Ngwu is facing growing backlash after remaining in the Senate Minority Whip position despite leaving the Peoples Democratic Party and moving to the All Progressives Congress.
Party officials in Ngwo Uno Ward, Udi Local Government Area, confirmed that he formally resigned from the PDP, while APC sources say he has completed registration with the ruling party in his ward.
The Minority Whip role is traditionally reserved for lawmakers from opposition parties, and critics say Ngwu’s continued stay in the office runs against parliamentary practice.
Concerns have deepened over claims that he has yet to announce his defection on the Senate floor, a delay observers believe allows him to retain the office and its benefits.
The source added, “By virtue of his resignation from the PDP in his ward and subsequent registration with the APC, he is no longer a member of the opposition or Minority Caucus, making his continued hold on the office highly irregular and improper.”
In an interview, Ngwu confirmed his move to the APC, saying, “Yes, I have moved to APC.”
When asked about following Governor Peter Mbah, he said, “Why would I have any regrets? You follow a leader that is doing well.” On the 2027 election, he added, “I don’t think that is negotiable.
The worst thing that can happen to us is not having Governor Mbah return for a second time.”
Critics are now urging Senate leaders to act swiftly and ensure the Minority Whip position is occupied by a lawmaker from the opposition.
