Southern governors and traditional rulers from across the region gathered in Ogun State on Thursday for a high-level meeting focused on security coordination, governance issues, and regional development. The session ended with a unified position on major national questions and renewed commitment to strengthening the South.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the leaders voiced strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu, praising his efforts toward economic stabilisation, governance reforms, and ongoing infrastructural expansion across the country.

They also reiterated their long-held backing for a Southern presidency, noting that the principle aligns with regional equity, national balance, and long-term cohesion.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State later shared details of the resolutions on X, writing, “We passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and restated our support for a Southern presidency. We reaffirmed our commitment to a safer and more united South, expressed our condolences on recent national security losses, and acknowledged the President’s efforts in stabilising the economy and advancing major infrastructure projects.”

He explained that the leadership forum adopted several new steps aimed at improving security operations across the South. These measures include setting up a dedicated zonal security fund, boosting intelligence-sharing networks, giving traditional rulers a formal role in security management, reinforcing community-based security outfits, and tackling threats tied to illegal mining and land disputes.

The leaders also offered their sympathies to families of security operatives and civilians killed in recent attacks, stressing that safeguarding the region and maintaining stability remain their top priorities.
