Nigeria’s Super Eagles players have reportedly threatened to boycott their next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Algeria in Marrakech if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) does not settle all outstanding winning bonuses.

Journalists on the ground in Morocco, including Adepoju Tobi Samuel, have reported that the players are insisting on receiving their entitlements before taking part in the game.

BBC reporter Olúwashínà Okeleji confirmed the situation, stating that both players and officials were still waiting for payments. “Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting on #AFCON2025 bonus payments,” he tweeted, adding that win bonuses from four matches—against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique—have not yet been paid.

Although the team remains committed to the tournament, they have drawn a firm line over the unpaid bonuses. “Squad remain focused but will NOT train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved,” Okeleji added.

Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain a response from the NFF were unsuccessful, with calls and messages to the federation’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, going unanswered.

This is not the first time the Super Eagles have protested over unpaid bonuses. In November, the team threatened to boycott a World Cup qualifier against Gabon for similar reasons.

Sports journalist Pooja, covering the team in Morocco, also confirmed the development on X, writing: “BREAKING NEWS: Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments. This is really sad.”
