Tension In Rivers State After Wike’s Threats
Tension rose in Rivers State after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, warned that he would force his way into the Yakubu Gowon Stadium if the state government blocks his next political rally.
He said the crisis could worsen if access continues to be denied, insisting that “heaven will not fall” if the stadium is damaged.
The warning was issued in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of senatorial and local government coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike said his camp formally applied to use the stadium but was turned down, calling the decision unheard of.
Wike declared that political mobilisation had begun and that Rivers State would remain at the forefront. “I told you that by January we would start playing politics. This is January, and we have started. If you don’t give us the venue, we will break it.”
He questioned the state government’s stance on Tinubu’s re-election, saying loyalty, not money, attracts political reward.
