The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed that some of his witnesses will be coming from Ethiopia, Kenya, and the United States.
Kanu made this disclosure before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.
This followed a motion Kanu filed on October 21, in which he listed the names of several prominent Nigerians and foreigners he planned to call as witnesses in his defence.
In the application, which he personally signed, Kanu informed the court of his intention to call a total of 23 witnesses, divided into two distinct groups.
The first group, according to him, would consist of those he referred to as “ordinary but material witnesses”.
He further told the court that the second category would be “vital and compellable” witnesses who would be “summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011”.
Kanu requested that, considering the number of witnesses he intended to present, the court should grant him 90 days to complete his defence.
Following the submission of the motion, Kanu dismissed his defence lawyers and chose to represent himself in the ongoing trial.
