The Advice That Would Decide Obi’s Fate – Baba Ahmed
Peter Obi has been urged to rethink his political strategy as the African Democratic Congress prepares for a coalition-backed presidential primary.
The advice came from former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who spoke on a television programme while reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of key opposition figures.
He said the contest within the coalition will be tough, especially under a convention-style primary, where experience and party structures often decide outcomes.
According to him, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar currently holds an edge because of his long years in party politics and his deep understanding of internal decision-making processes.
Baba-Ahmed noted that Obi remains popular with the public and maintains strong visibility across the country through constant engagement with grassroots supporters.
He described Obi as one of the most active politicians in recent times, often travelling widely to stay connected with ordinary citizens.
However, he warned that public appeal alone may not be enough in a coalition filled with seasoned political players. He said Obi must accept that he is now competing directly with politicians who are skilled in internal party battles and are equally determined to secure the presidential ticket.
He advised Obi to better manage his supporters and avoid public disputes, especially within the coalition. Baba-Ahmed said calming tensions and focusing on strategy, rather than confrontations, could improve Obi’s chances as the race for the ADC ticket gathers pace.
