Tinubu Picks New Hajj Commission CEO
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria following the resignation of Prof Abdullahi Usman.
The nomination was announced in a State House statement released on Tuesday.
The presidency said the appointment is subject to Senate confirmation in line with the NAHCON Act.
A letter has already been forwarded to Senate President Godswill Akpabio seeking swift approval of the nominee.
Ambassador Yusuf is a career diplomat who served as Nigeria’s envoy to Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
His nomination comes days after Prof Usman stepped down from office after about 14 months, stating that his decision was based on personal reasons.
Usman’s resignation followed reports that the commission could face heavy financial losses linked to the 2025 Hajj exercise, though he maintained that his exit was not connected to any dispute with the government or the agency’s mandate.
