Tinubu Pushes For State Police Law
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the leadership of the 10th Senate to amend the constitution to create a legal framework for State Police across Nigeria.
The appeal aims to address rising insecurity by allowing states to establish their own police forces to complement the federal police.
Tinubu argued that decentralising policing would improve response times and strengthen local law enforcement.
The president’s call comes amid growing public concern over violent crimes and kidnappings in various regions of the country.
He stressed that empowering states to manage security would help reduce the burden on federal security agencies.
Senate leaders are expected to consider the proposal and begin discussions on constitutional amendments needed to implement state-level policing nationwide.
