Truce With Wike Clears Way For Fubara Commissioners
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to submit a list of commissioners to the State House of Assembly this week, following a peace deal reached between him and former governor Nyesom Wike.
The move comes after months of tension that disrupted governance in the state.
The breakthrough followed a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with Fubara, Wike, the Rivers Assembly Speaker and state elders.
The talks were aimed at ending the political standoff that had raised fears of impeachment and stalled key government actions.
A source said Fubara was offered three choices to escape impeachment pressure. The source added that the governor later accompanied Wike to his Abuja home, where he apologised.
Following the intervention, Fubara is now expected to act on the terms agreed at the meeting, starting with sending the commissioners list for approval.
The step is seen as a sign that calm may be returning to Rivers politics after months of uncertainty.
