Turaki PDP Faction Rejects INEC Stance
In Nigeria, the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki says the Supreme Court of Nigeria will decide the party’s leadership dispute, not the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The group said it has already taken the matter to court for a final ruling.
This follows INEC’s recognition of a rival PDP leadership backed by Nyesom Wike, with Abdulrahman Mohammed listed as national chairman after a convention in Abuja.
The Turaki faction rejected the convention, insisting it was conducted despite ongoing legal disputes.
It argued that the validity of the gathering is now before the courts and will be resolved through the judicial process.
The faction also alleged that the crisis within the PDP is being driven by the ruling All Progressives Congress and the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming attempts are being made to weaken opposition parties.
