United Nigeria Airlines Grounded Twice In One Day
Passengers of United Nigeria Airlines faced travel disruptions on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after the airline suffered two separate aircraft incidents at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The first involved an Embraer 190 arriving from Akanu Ibiam International Airport. While parked on the ramp, a taxiing aircraft from another airline caused a jet blast that displaced a baggage trolley into the United Nigeria Airlines plane, damaging the antenna and forward fuselage.
No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was immediately withdrawn for full inspection.
Hours later, an Airbus A320 on Flight UN0509 from Asaba International Airport experienced a bird strike on one engine.
The plane was also taken out of service, causing further disruptions across the airline’s network.
United Nigeria Airlines apologised to affected passengers and said both aircraft would only return to service after thorough safety checks, reaffirming its commitment to strict safety standards.
