VeryDarkMan has taken aim at Wizkid over the ongoing feud with Seun Kuti, criticizing the singer for invoking Fela Kuti’s name instead of confronting Seun directly.
“Nigeria is the only country without music legends. While other countries idolize theirs, in Nigeria, they call it ‘past glory.’ I even expected Wizkid to call out Seun Kuti directly, without mentioning his father, Fela,” he said.
He also questioned Wizkid’s Grammy win and his understanding of music as an art. “Because of Wizkid, people disrespect Fela. Let’s talk about Grammy. This 2026, Fela will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys after being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2025. Did Wizkid ever get a lifetime achievement award? Never. Which song? Which piece of music? Music is an art involving instruments and drumming. Wizkid can’t even play an instrument. He can’t even match Made Kuti. People don’t respect their legends, that’s why Wizkid uses Fela’s name.”
On Wizkid’s Grammy, VeryDarkMan added, “Take a good look — Best Music Video. This is not a real Grammy; I call it a compensation Grammy. Cry all you want, it is what it is. Now look at Nigerians who truly have Grammys. Burna Boy won Best Global Music Album twice, solo. Tems won Best African Music Performance and also collaborated with Future and Drake. Yet people disrespect Fela, claiming he was irresponsible. None of us match that level of artistry.”
He concluded that the feud highlights a larger issue: Nigeria’s failure to honor and protect its music legends, allowing contemporary artists to leverage iconic names rather than genuinely respect their legacy.
“Nigeria is the only country in the word that don’t have music legends like other countries do they label them ‘past glory.’ I thought WizKid would call out Seun Kuti directly, without mentioning Fela,”
