Why Markets Suddenly Closed In Kogi
Security operations across parts of Kogi West have led to the temporary shutdown of several markets and motor parks as authorities move to break criminal networks and restore order.
The action, announced on Sunday, February 8, 2026, targets areas identified as support routes for bandits and other armed groups.
The state government said the decision was taken to back coordinated operations involving federal security agencies and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
By restricting movement and supplies, officials aim to block access to food, logistics, and local assistance often relied on by criminal elements during operations.
The closures affect selected communities in Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, and Mopamuro local government areas.
Authorities stressed that the measure is temporary and will be lifted once the security exercise is completed and normalcy returns to the affected areas.
Security forces have already recorded progress, rescuing sixteen (16) kidnapped victims from a camp linked to a notorious bandit leader in the Tunga Forest.
The camp has been taken over, while clearance operations continue, as the government maintains its stance against negotiating with bandits or paying ransom.
