Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf drew attention on Friday after appearing in Abuja wearing the Kwankwasiyya red cap and displaying the New Nigeria Peoples Party flag during the first State Executive Council meeting of the year.
The meeting took place in the nation’s capital and was attended by all state commissioners and the deputy governor, Aminu Abdussalam, both of whom have featured in recent rumours about possible political realignments in Kano.
By showing up in full party colours, the governor sent a clear message at a time when speculation had grown over a possible defection. His appearance contrasted with expectations in some circles that he might use the meeting to signal a change of political direction.
During the session, Yusuf urged cabinet members to remain united and work together as one team. He stressed that harmony within government was necessary to meet the needs of the people and move the state forward.
He also outlined key plans of his administration, placing strong focus on youth empowerment. Yusuf said Kano plans to launch job and skills programmes in 2026 aimed at supporting about 50,000 young people as part of efforts to boost growth and stability across the state.
