The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State has alleged that the African Democratic Congress is orchestrating a plan to create disunity and destabilise the state before the 2027 general elections.
The party urged residents across the three senatorial districts to remain alert and resist any attempt by the ADC to undermine Enugu’s long-standing zoning arrangement, which it said has ensured peace, stability, and political balance for decades.
State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye, issued the warning at the weekend during the inauguration of ward and local government executive committees in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
Nwoye, accompanied by the committee’s secretary and former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Barrister Eugene Odo, insisted that the ADC had become a refuge for aggrieved politicians whose aim is to “disrupt what has kept Enugu politically stable.”
“Do not allow yourselves to be deceived by members of the ADC,” he warned. “They want to use you as tools of disunity. These are politicians who are bitter and desperate to overturn the zoning agreement that has given Enugu uninterrupted peace.”
He stressed that maintaining the zoning structure was vital to the state’s collective interest, adding that Governor Peter Mbah’s performance had further strengthened the argument for continuity.
Nwoye said Mbah had delivered across key sectors and deserved a second term under the rotational arrangement.
The inauguration in Nkanu West was part of the APC’s final phase of a statewide tour to install executives across the 17 local government areas and 260 wards.
Other members of the caretaker delegation included former Minister of State for Defence, Ambassador Fidelia Njeze; Comrade Peter Chime; Dr Oby Ajih; Dr Chiedozie Nwafor; and Engr. Emma Ekeh. They were received by a large crowd of party supporters, stakeholders, and government officials.
Also in attendance were the immediate past PDP State Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, and the Governor’s Political Adviser, Hon Frank Anioma.
Nwoye maintained that the APC had become the “winning party” in the state, noting that Governor Mbah’s move into the APC had shifted the political landscape.
He recalled attending Mbah’s 2023 governorship rally dressed in full APC regalia, saying it was clear even then that “the tide of history had shifted.”
Former PDP Chairman, Dr Chukwunweike, said the widespread movement of political structures into the APC was driven by “practical realities of governance” and the best interest of the people.
The statewide inauguration, which also covered Enugu North and Nkanu East LGAs, concluded this weekend after two weeks of an extensive tour by the Nwoye-led committee.
