500 Women Groups Demand Justice Over Raping Festival
More than 500 women groups across Nigeria have called for swift arrests over reported cases of sexual violence during a recent festival in Delta State.
The demand follows disturbing reports of assaults on women, which have sparked anger nationwide.
The groups said the incident, said to have taken place in Ozoro, cannot be defended under any cultural practice.
They insisted that no tradition should be used as an excuse for acts that violate the dignity and safety of women.
They urged security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure all those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
According to them, justice must be served quickly to restore confidence and deter future abuse.
The coalition also called on community leaders and authorities to strengthen safeguards during public events.
They warned that failure to act decisively could encourage more violence and deepen fear among women and girls.
